THE SONG OF MY LAND
As the new day each morning breaks open the sky
And the sea wakes up happy and lively and spry
I hear the new tales that the waves tell the docks
And the clash of the fresh light that lights up the rocks,
The joy of the leaves as they soak up the dew
And the smiles of the flowers all brilliant and true,
The caress of the breeze that romances the trees,
The slithering of lizards, the dance of the bees.
But when rays of the noon sun start burning the ground
And the shelter of shadows can nowhere be found
Comes the sigh of the cactus lamenting the heat
And the groan of the scorched earth that cracks in defeat
The shifting of pebbles, the flapping of wings
And so many voices of so many things.
And I watch and I see how the day turns to night
As the clouds change their colors to fade with the light
While the melodies waver as darkness descends
And the phrases are changed, but the tune never ends…
In that darkness I listen, and I understand
It is these notes that make up the song of my land.
