Blackey around the moon
Black Ancestors worked the fields in the Caribbean and America
From sunrise till sunset
Sometimes with just the light of the Moon
But…Today a black man is flying to the Moon
A BLACK MAN!!!
Son of a Haitian-American-Mother and an African-American-Dad
A BLACK MAN so free that he can fly to the Moon
Because the seeds of freedom were given to him through both his parents
A BLACK MAN so brilliant and so bold
Because the seeds of freedom were given to him through courageous Haitian Freedom Fighters and “Bound-Souls-with-Unbound Wills” in America
Resounding the words of Toussaint Louverture: “I was born a Slave, but Nature gave me the Soul of a Free Man. Internal Freedom is a state of mind and spirit, that no external condition can extinguish.”
Imagine being so free of spirit that you dare to circle the Moon
So, Victor imagined and he did
A BLACK MAN so free
That a nation
A planet
This Earth
Couldn’t hold him in its atmosphere
He went above and beyond that
And he’s flying high to the Moon
And we are over the Moon because he went to the Moon
The gravity of ancestors’ pain and prayers
Held him in hope
They planted a holy charge
Then launched him so high
That he went flying free to the Moon
Today
With the pride
And jubilation
Of his people
As the most powerful fuel
A BLACK MAN is flying to the Moon
With ancestral Earth seeds in his cells
The dreamer and the dream became one
A BLACK MAN is flying to the Moon today
Reminding us
From the stars and beyond
That WE as a Black People are limitless
Because we broke the iron chains
A BLACK MAN is flying to the Moon
Today
His name is Victor Glover…and he is telling us: “I Love All of You From the Moon and Back!”
